Where are we?
The Allotment Association occupies a field accessed from Cross Lanes in Pill.
The field is currently split into c. 60 allotments of varying sizes.
Who runs it
The field is rented from the Parish Council, and managed by a committee drawn from the association membership and elected each year at an Annual General Meeting to which all plotholders are invited.
The Committee ensures that the conditions of the Lease are met, bills are paid on time, and arranges for necessary maintenance to be undertaken.
How does it work?
Any adult resident of the Parish of Pill and Easton in Gordano is entitled to rent a plot, subject to availability
Plotholders pay a peppercorn rent for their plots, and an equally small membership fee to belong to the Association.
A further small fee entitles plotholders to use of a variety of machinery to help with cultivation and maintenance of their plots.
The membership fee includes (mandatory) personal liability insurance cover for plotholders against claims for accidental injury to third parties or their property caused on the allotment site
In order to meet association costs (rent, insurance, water, electricity etc) income from rents and membership fees is supplemented by the proceeds of a number of social events held throughout the year, including a plant sale, open day and annual bonfire.
